Dear Readers,
HAPPY NEW FICTION! Today we celebrate the release of Sand, Smoke, Current, a collection of short stories by Robert Vander Lugt. Order Sand, Smoke, Current directly from Wiseblood Books HERE for only $11.00, or HERE via Amazon.
I write this with frost-bitten fingers. As though to assert its revelatory powers, the following passage from Robert Vander Lugt's "Onslaught," the first story in his collection Sand, Smoke, Current, might as well be describing this morning in Milwaukee:
Later, he woke, poured a cup of hot water and stood steeping his tea at the window. Snow flew horizontal, flattening against the pane in wet globs, melting and running in snaking trails that merged and funneled mindlessly. He saw nothing beyond the glass; the barn, the squat equipment shed, the dancing evergreens all obliterated.
Well, citified as our family is, we don't have a barn or equipment shed, but if we did it would be equally obliterated from sight by the snowstorm, and, though we don't, Vander Lugt's potent imagination is known to make one see something where he swore he'd previously seen nothing.
