Dear Readers,

It is with tremendous excitement that we announce Wiseblood Books' first book of the new year -- The Hound of Heaven at My Heels, by Robert Waldron. This novel reconstructs the poet's lost diary as he struggles to find his soul and his vocation. Order a copy for $12.00 from Wisebloodbooks.com. The Hound is also available on Amazon.

“Surely there is a power in that poem, "The Hound of Heaven," that no other one has, to many souls, even when those souls' sins are not as spectacular or as visible those of Thompson. Waldron has caught some of that power in this book—and even Thompson's poetic idiosyncrasies, a little, in his prose.”
-From the Foreward, by Peter Kreeft

Waldron has woven fact and fiction together into a fascinating and intriguing story that shows us one of England's greatest poets struggling to save himself and give expression to the poems that burned within him.”
-Edward O'Donnell, O.C.D. Editor, The Spiritual Life

The Hound of Heaven at My Heels: The Lost Diary of Francis Thompson is a poignant and inspiring story about the great poet Francis Thompson. Addicted to opium as a young man and reduced to homelessness on the streets of London, the poet, in a last effort to regenerate himself, sends to Wilfrid Meynell, the editor of the Catholic monthly Merry England, samples of his writing: an essay and a poem. Months pass before Meynell reads the soiled manuscript; he immediately perceives its genius and sets out to find the young poet but to no avail. He publishes the poetry in the hopes that Thompson will contact him...

Fortunately, I was able to read The Hound of Heaven at My Heels: The Lost Diary of Francis Thompson and the story offered a different story that was new to may eyes that time. I liked the story because the characters were strong and the story itself built the characters and made a chemistry towards each other. One of the most important factors I am looking into is if the story itself is appropriate and perfect for the actors who will carry over the story.
